'YOU ME US' / VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN SHOW

YOU ME US is the Graduation Show from this year’s Visual Communication students at The Margate School. Having experimented with a range of new mediums and techniques over the past year the show focuses on IDENTITY - with reference to pop culture, consumerism, faith and a sense of place. SAM FURNESS / INTRODUCING 'CREATIVE QUESTS'

Sam Furness is an artist and the founder of Creative Quests. His work focuses on helping people unlock their creativity through experience design that challenges perceptions, deepens connection and encourages intentional curiosity. You can hear Sam talk about this creative method and also join the first Creative Quest Margate.

Karrie Fransman and Bluebear

KARRIE FRANSMAN / THE POWER OF COMICS

Karrie will be joining us to talk about her comic and visual storytelling practice. Karrie's work breaks down barriers, smashes stereotypes and tells important stories, often about social, humanitarian and environmental issues.
She is a founding member of The Comics Cultural Impact Collective (CCIC) that aims to raise awareness of the value of comics in the UK.

Kim Lawrie

KIM LAWRIE / NEURODIVERGENT CREATIVITY IN THE AGE OF AI

Kim Lawrie was most recently Head of Creative and Emerging Tech at the Ad Agency, House 337. Kim specialises in AI and neurodiversity, and has spoken publicly about working in the creative industry as an autistic person.

Artist and researcher Benjamin Jenner will be hosting a workshop or walk exploring the relationship between sensory and neurological difference. Join Benjamin and a group of neurodiverse collaborators in sensory walking experience.

MICHAEL JOHNSON / BRANDING WITH PURPOSE

Founder of Johnson Banks, an agency with 100% not-for-profit clients. They work with the cultural, climate, education, charity and philanthropic sectors. Michael’s mantra is to ‘do great work for good people’.

FLEET ARCHITECTS / MARGATE REIMAGINED FOR ALL

MARGATE SEAFRONT REIMAGINED FOR ALL. Fleet Architects will be running a day of FREE workshops inviting guest to reimagine a more accessible and inclusive Margate Seafront. The day will conclude with a talk and discussion about the some of the issues and ideas raised throughout the day. (Kids & Adults workshops + drop in participants welcome)

EIRINN HAYHOW / BIOMATERIAL WORKSHOP & TALK

Fashion designer Eirinn Hayhow joins us to talk about her innovative practice creating bio-material, using plants, bark, and herbs. You can also take part in a workshop with Eirinn and will take away your own natural creation and gain a newfound knowledge and appreciation of working with natural methods and materials. LUCY PANESAR: DESIGNING AN INCLUSIVE & ACCESSIBLE CIRRICULA

Lucy will discuss approaches that are informing the development of more inclusive, empowering and culturally sensitive curricula, classrooms and interactions within and beyond art and design.
This talk is primarility aimed at those working in arts and design education, in any form or setting. However, anyone insterested in this important topic and practice is very welcome to attend.

WEDNESDAY 30 OCT - 14.00 - 16.00

PAPERCRAFT WORKSHOP WITH NATHAN WARD +GF SMITH

Work with paper artist Nathan Ward to reimagine paper specialist G . F Smith's iconic collection book into a new 3D sculpture; professional artist Nathan will share techniques and insights for working with paper. Each participant will be given their own workshop collection book from which they can remove papers of their choice and create a unique paper sculpture.

ANOTHER ACRONYM / ACCESSIBLE BY DESIGN (KIDS)

Calling designers of tomorrow! Katie & Noel of Design Agency Another Acronym will be hosting a FREE kids workshop 'Accessible by Design'. In this fun and interactive workshop Katie, Noel and their son Cooper (aged 9) will explore the types of challenges people have when they are interacting with a design that isn’t made with them in mind.

THURSDAY 31 OCT - 14.00 - 16.00

COMMUNITY COLLAGE WITH BECKY THOMAS (KIDS)

Contribute to our community collage window! Drop in to create a collage of yourself, your friends, family, pets or wildlife. All materials and templates will be provided. Cut, stick and create people and creatures from magazines and paper, then we’ll add them to the TMS window to create a mural of all of the artworks. Suitable for children of any age / No experience needed / FREE / Booking not required, drop-ins welcome.

MARGATE CREATIVE QUEST
WITH SAM FURNESS

Join Sam Furness and his team for the first Margate Creative Quest. This fun, collective imagination workshop & walk will spark your curiosity and re-ignite your creativity, with Margate as your source of inspiration.
All welcome, aged 16+. Please be aware the workshop will include a 25-30 min walk. No prior creative practice is required.
